Who am I?
Hi, I’m Kim. An eccentric Toronto gal who spends a large portion of my life (and money) reaching various corners of the world. I’ve been to over 45 different countries, done some pretty wild sh*t and aim to do a lot more of both! I truly feel at home on the road and love having new, crazy adventures. I want to inspire more people to get out of their comfort zones, see and experience the world and truly live life they dream of. And maybe along the way I’ll entertain with stories of my mis-adventures in the hope that people can learn from my (many) mistakes.
I’ve been traveling pretty much since I was born, boarded my first plane at a month old because thats about how long it takes to get a passport in Canada. For the first 19 years of my life I traveled mostly with my family or friends which really engrained in me a sense of adventure. Some highlight of these early years of travel were RVing around the south island of New Zealand, a train trip across Egypt, many white water canoe trips, scuba certifications in Belize and perhaps most importantly a volunteer trip to Kenya. In Kenya my family partnered with a rural women’s group to start a small micro-finance fund thats completed several projects in the area (more on that later). It also inspired my choice of undergrad degree – a bachelors in Conflict Studies and Human rights at the University of Ottawa.
It was during university that I began my solo travel adventures and man did I ever love them. My first solo trip was to Iceland at age 19!. After this I moved to England and studied at the University of Exeter for a year. During that year I was lucky enough to make several trips to the rest of Europe, including a multi-day trek in Translavania which started a new obsession with trekking. After living in Europe for a year I moved back to Canada to finish my degree and immediately started saving for my next trip. Through university I started work as a web developer / media coordinator first for an NGO then for a major Canadian bank. I worked my ass off at these two jobs snd at several part time jobs – sometimes logging 75 hour weeks. But it was worth it! My the time I graduated I had saved enough money for a 7 1/2 month solo trip to Asia and Europe. Including two major hikes in Nepal and the El Camino (with my family) in Spain!
Now I have returned to Canada, this time to Toronto and have begun working for the same Canadian bank I work with during university – this time as a business analysts. Now I’m trying to settle in to life at a 9-5 while day dreaming (and saving) to start my own company and planning my next trip (stay tuned!!). I love to record my adventures both through photography and writing and hope I can inspire some people to explore the world and live the life they dream of!
